A.Typically, the real estate agent is paid their commission by the seller's lender, but only if the short sale goes through on the terms dictated by the lender. As a consequence it is really important for individuals facing the possibility of a short sale to meet with a local real estate attorney. While it may be okay to hire a real estate agent at a reduced commission to find you a buyer, you should never let a realtor negotiate a short sale on your behalf.
