Q.What is a conservator?

A.A conservator is a person appointed by the probate court, after petition and a hearing, to handle your finances and property, and in some cases you as a person. If you are not the petitioner, the court must find you are not able to handle your finances effectively. A conservator's powers can be quite similar to those of an attorney-in-fact or agent appointed under a durable power of attorney.
