Q.Can the general contractor claim a Mechanic's Lien against the property?

A.Yes. The general contractor, all of the subcontractors, and each of the suppliers can place a mechanic's lien on the property if they go unpaid. A property owner should require any general contractor to provide an unconditional lien release on the amount of work done up to the time of payment. A lien release should be executed each time a payment is made.
