Q.How much notice must the landlord give to increase the rent?

A.California Civil Code Section 827(b) and (c) requires a landlord to provide all tenants with at least 30 days' advance written notice of a rent increase if the tenant has a month-to-month (or shorter) periodic rental agreement. The period of your rental is determined by how often you pay the rent (on a monthly basis, weekly basis, etc.). If the rent increase is 10% or less, the landlord must provide at least 30 days' advance notice of the rent increase. If the rent increase is greater than 10%, then the landlord must provide at least 60 days advance written notice of the rent increase.
