Q.What must a notice of entry to a rental unit contain?

A.Pursuant to California Civil Code Sections 1954(b)-(d), a notice of the landlord's intent to enter a rental unit must be in writing and must specify the date, approximate time and purpose of the entry.

The notice can be: (1) personally delivered to the tenant, (2) left at the rental unit with a person of suitable age and discretion (e.g. an adult roommate); (3) left under the door of the rental unit, or (4) mailed to the tenant at least 6 days prior to the intended entry.
