Q.What if my doctor, or hospital, refuses to accept a Living Will or Durable Power Of Attorney For Health Care?

A.Under federal law, most hospitals, nursing homes, and home health agencies must inform you of their policies about advance directives at the time of admission. Most will respect health directives, but some may have restrictive policies. Look into them. Also ask your doctor his opinion about health directives in general and your specific wishes. If he disagrees with you, you may wish to find a new doctor ahead of time.
