Q.Should a lawyer review our employee handbook?
A.Absolutely YES, if you do not have a sophisticated human resources department. A poorly written, incomplete, or pro employee handbook can cause more harm than good. Oftentimes, poorly written employee handbooks are a mecca for employee rights and claims against the employer, which can cause legal problems. These problems most often occur when the employer prepares their initial employee manual from a CD ROM product or a form book. While this may save some money initially, you are best advised to have a local employment law attorney prepare your employee handbook, and if you have already distributed one drafted from a form book or CD-Rom then review it and make changes accordingly.
