Q.If I work 8 hours on Thanksgiving, am I entitled to holiday pay (time and a half or double time)?

A.Generally No unless you have an employment agreement to the contrary. There is nothing in state law that mandates an employer pay an employee extra for work performed on a holiday, Saturday, or Sunday. California employers are only required to pay overtime for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week. Unless your employer has a policy or practice of paying extra money for working on a holiday, or you are subject to a collective bargaining agreement or employment agreement that contains such a term, your employer is only required to pay you your regular rate of pay.
