Q.Can an employer deduct pay from an exempt employee's salary for partial-day absences?

A.Generally No as doing so is the equivalent of treating the employee as an hourly employee. Most employers therefore opt to implement a paid sick leave plan whereby the employee is required to use paid leave for partial day absences. Because the law differs in different state, you should consult a local employment law attorney if you are either and employer or employee facing this situation.
