Q.If an employer fires an employee, when must wages be paid? (CA)

A.If an employer fires an employee, all unpaid wages must be paid immediately on the date of termination. If the employer 'willfully' fails to pay the employee, then the employer may be assessed a penalty. The penalty is calculated by multiplying the number of days the payment is delayed by the employee's daily wage (up to a maximum of 30 days).
