Q.How do I sell, transfer or assign a domain name?
A.Buying and selling domain names is a big business. Each domain name registration authority has its own procedures to sell, transfer, or assign a domain name. But, transfering a domain name involves a lot more than just changing the registrant information with the domain name registrar.
Before you set about changing the registrants information, you will want to execute a formal written agreement setting forth the price, key terms, and a domain name assignment. Is the original owner still going to use the words in the domain name for a local business? for a catalgue? Well, those rights should be reserved in the contract by the seller of the domain name. The domain name assignment is an agreement where the owner of a domain name (i.e. www.ABC.com) transfers all, or a part of, his/her rights in the domain name to another party. Before you attempt to transfer or assign a domain name on your own, we strongly urge you to consult with an attorney familiar with internet and trademark law.
