Q.How are damages calculated for a breach of a contract?

A.The most common type of damages recovered in a breach of contract case are compensatory damages. Compensatory damages aim to put the non-breaching party in the position that they would have been in but for the breach. Unless a contract expressly provides for attorney's fees and costs, a party suing for breach of contract will typically not be able to recover attorneys fees or punitive damages.
