Q.I heard about the bankruptcy case, but never received written notice?

A.If a debtor leans about a bankruptcy case, even informally, the debtor must immediately act to preserve his or her rights. If the debtor has actual knowledge of the case, the court will probably bind the debtor to the filing deadlines for claims and objections to dischargeability.

Immediately contact the court and ask for the debtor's case number. In some jurisdictions this can be accomplished via a simple telephone call; in others, you will have to personally go to the court. Upon receipt of the debtor's case number, you should file a request to be added to the Master Address List and keep the court informed if your address changes.
