Q.Will I have to go to court?

A.Yes. About a month after you file for bankruptcy, you will be required to attend a bankruptcy hearing, known as the First Meeting of Creditors. A bankruptcy trustee will preside over the case and you will be asked to answer questions under oath regarding your assets, debts, and bankruptcy petition. After this First Meeting of Creditors, you generally won’t be required to return to court unless the bankruptcy trustee files an adversary action. You should consult a local bankruptcy attorney for more information.
