Q.What happens if one spouse files for bankruptcy and not the other?

A.If one spouse files for bankruptcy and the other spouse does not, the spouse who does not file for bankruptcy may wind up responsible for the debts acquired by his or her spouse that did file for bankruptcy. Before filing for bankruptcy, seek the advice of competent local counsel.
