Q.What is the 900 Number Rule?

A.The 900-Number Rule requires that ads for pay-per-call services clearly and conspicuously disclose the cost of the call.

The Rule requires additional disclosures for ads that: (a) promote sweepstakes, contests, or games of chance, (b) provide information about a federal program that is not sponsored by a federal agency, or (c) target individuals under 18 years of age.

The 900-Number Rule prohibits ads for 900-numbers from being directed to children under the age of 12 unless the ad deals with a bona fide educational service, as defined by the Rule.
